How the US Uses Oil

In “Oil: What the Public Doesn’t See Everyday,” Jarrett Dragani briefly introduces the life cycle of oil before leading into oil’s prevalence as an energy source. Dragani states that 69% of the energy uses in the transportation industry comes from oil, and this ties in to “How the US Uses Oil,” which is a set of pie charts and tables showing the distribution of oil consumption in the United States. Here are some astonishing numbers from the article: 70% of oil produced domestically goes to transportation; 11% of US produced oil goes into making petrochemicals for plastics, rubbers and synthetics; and 43% of oil consumption is from gasoline used for transportation in air crafts and automobiles.
